1. INFORMATION
1.1. HISTORY
Shadows Of The Fallen (abbreviated "SF") is the last project made by S-K-O-P-L-E-R, a former user of Pouetpu-games, released in January 2016; the principal purpose of the level was to demonstrate that Super Mario Flash 2 was not totally useless, as it could be used for big projects, however, it was also created as a tribute to the metroidvania genre and to all level makers of the website.
The level compiles most of the observable metroidvania features, combining them with the own Super Mario Flash 2 features, and transforming them into a large complicated puzzle where the player can test his skills and take advantage of most of what he has learned of the game so far; this level also compiles most of the challenges used by some other level makers.
Having a total of two hours of gameplay approximately, along with a 6000x 3000y size overall, makes this level one of the biggest and hard-worked levels of all time of the site, not to mention that it is considered as one of the hardest levels ever made.
The very first time S-K-O-P-L-E-R talked about this project was in August 2015, however, due to other projects, problems, and conflicts, the level could not be worked as planned, and in consequence, this made the level to be posted in January 2016.
Despite the release of Super Mario Maker and what happened on September 13th (which affected the site's activity), S-K-O-P-L-E-R still wanted to make his level, at least to make it as his last one before he left the site too. Some people wanted to convince S-K-O-P-L-E-R to stop working on the level (because they considered it pointless due to the activity on Pouetpu-games), but few still wanted to see how the project would seem and gave some support to him.
It was not until November when S-K-O-P-L-E-R took seriously the idea of making a version for the level, where he could add some custom sprites and sounds that could fit with the level ambience.
1.2. STORY
In an era of suffering and dreamless, an unknown entity was controlling all heroes of the earth, forcing them to create the biggest castle ever made so far with their own hands, in order to have the absolute power over humanity, and become the ruler of the world.
When the castle was already made, the entity did not find another reason on controlling the heroes, deciding to kill them and collecting their souls; leaving their work, the castle, as their shadow.
However, a brave man, with no fear, looks forward to change the history, and free those souls from the entity, even if he has to confront a clearly powerful enemy; this man will use his intelligence and force to pass through the big castle, pass through the shadows of the fallen.
You are about to control "the avenger", and decide his fate: fail the objective and have his soul controlled by the entity, or revenge the ones who made history and change everything.
The future depends on you
1.3. FEATURES
Shadows of the Fallen is a level with a metroidvania gameplay, this means that the player will need to solve an overall puzzle using his skills and items included.
This giant puzzle is divided into sections (these can be recognized by their design), and these sections into rooms, where each room requires a specific skill and/or item.
The rooms normally feature enemies and obstacles, and some of them must be killed in order to continue. The player might confront the same enemy over and over, but there are some other enemies that are exclusive, and they can only be found in only one room or section.
In some sections, there are special rooms (that have the Mario bonus tile set) knows as "Save room", these rooms were included in order to save the player's progress, so when the player is killed, he can make use of one code so he could start from the last save room he passed through.
The player will need to search for the code which features the last save room the player saw. The list of the "save rooms" was added on 5.SAVE ROOMS CODES
Finally, is possible to confront bosses during the gameplay, some of them are secret.
Each section has its own music, and the player will have to play the required music whenever he leaves the section. Be sure to check 4.MUSIC.
1.4. PROLOGUE
The prologue contains the same information in 1.3.Story, but included in a video.
2. REQUIREMENTS
2.1. RECOMMENDED INSTRUCTIONS AND FEATURES
Shadows of the Fallen was created in order to be playable by everybody, without giving importance to a specific age, however, the way this level was created (being confusing and requiring a lot of skills) demonstrates that it was really made for experienced users who have no problems when playing a metroidvania game or, at least, dominate most of SMF2 known skills.
However, not only that, but it also requires faster computers and some other recommendations in order to make it fully playable, otherwise, the level could crash or be lagging when playing it.
The following list compiles the requirements the player (you) has to have in mind:
Be sure to have a faster internet, you will have to load the SMF2 SF Version, the SF code and the music (on youtube) for each sections you pass through.
You should not have another tab opened besides the SMF2 SF Version page, Youtube (for the music) and SF page (this page); however, if you computer does not lag when you have other tabs, then you do not have to follow this instruction.
Be sure that you are not running or downloading heavy programs and files (for example, scanning with an antivirus or downloading something that makes lag on other websites); if you do not have problems with this, you can still play this level.
The following list compiles some recommended instructions for better gameplay that could or could not necessarily be followed.
Load every youtube video that features the music, wait until you have most of them loaded successfully, however, do not load them at the same time.
Do not load the videos and the SMF2 SF version at the same time.
Be sure that, if you are going to play this level for long time, you do not have other tasks, since it could only waste your time on what really matters.
It is not totally recommended to play this level for 2 hours, instead, and for better gameplay, you should save your progress by using the codes listed on 5.SAVE ROOMS CODES; then, play this level again later.
2.2. SMF2 SKILLS AND TRICKS
This is a list of some skills you have to have in mind, there could be more skills you will still need to learn and that are not here:
Knowing how to fly with a cape.
Knowing how to pass through small areas when your character is big.
Knowing how to drop items highly.
Knowing how to hold items in a vine.
Knowing how to beat bowser and boom-boom, the easy ways to beat them.
Knowing how to use yoshi to hit enemies like the big fish.
Remember your path.

3. SMF2 VERSION
Even though SMF2 SF Version (the name of the required version) shares similarity with the normal Super Mario Flash 2, yet it is required to play the level on this version, since some sprite changes were made and they probably will seem odd if the level is played on the original version.
Click the button below to open SMF2 SF Version (note, only use this version to play this game, the version was not actually meant to be used for making custom levels or playing the 1 player game).

5. SAVE ROOMS CODES
The save rooms are small rooms added on some sections which were made in purpose to save the player's progress, so when the player died or had to stop playing the level, he would not have to start from the beginning.
These rooms can be considered as "save rooms" if they are featured with bonus tiles, and also including the design of the section where the rooms are. Notice that the Laboratory also features this, but only one room there can be considered as "save room".
If you have problems with recognizing a "save room", the images added here will help you.
